There are literally hundreds of kilometres of walking, hiking and backpacking trails in and around Elliot Lake. With some of the most magnificent and geologically significant rock formations in the world, abandoned logging camps and mines and probably some of the most easily accessible wilderness anywhere, the best way to discover is by foot.
Mississagi Provincial Park is within minutes of the city and has six nature trails ranging from a half kilometre to 22 kilometres. Immediately south of Elliot Lake lies the well known Voyageur Hiking Trail, which is part of the Trans Canada Trail network. East of the City, trails connect downtown Elliot Lake to the Firetower Lookout with a tremendous network of trails in between. And we can't forget the simplicity of the trails that literally lie in our backyards. Many homes in Elliot Lake back onto extensive belts of forest and each has its own network of trails. Combined, neighbourhood trails with the nature trails along the shores of Elliot Lake, and the urban adventurer can become the nature seeker in mere steps.
Hiking and outdoor recreation maps are available at the Elliot Lake Welcome Centre.
